Student Shares Anstey Hodge Internship Experiences

Anstey Hodge mentored Tony, a senior from Hidden Valley High School, through the Roanoke County Public Schools Insight Program. Tony spent 50 hours at Anstey Hodge between August 2015 and April 2016. During that time, Anstey Hodge gave insight into Tony’s possible career path, graphic design.

Over the nine month period, Tony spent time with each employee to learn more about the responsibilities of each job within an advertising agency. He sought guidance from Matt Brown on various projects that he was completing for school and designs that he was doing as part of extra-curricular clubs and outside hobbies. Tony spent time with Patrick Carrell to learn some of the basics involved in website design.

To gain a perspective on the clients Anstey Hodge serves and the various projects that are completed within the agency, he learned how to archive printed work samples, valuable resources that are used to gain future business for the agency. Another project Tony completed was to design the covers of the award entries submitted by Anstey Hodge for the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Summit Awards. He attended the celebratory gala in November to see all of the award-winning projects by agencies and organizations throughout southwest Virginia.

To complete the program, an Open House was held at the Roanoke County Public School Board office for all Insight participants. As part of the event, the students shared what they learned through their mentorship experience. We wish the best for Tony as he starts his post-secondary education at Virginia Western Community College in the fall.
