Grand Opening Celebrated in Columbia, SC

The Crossings at Columbia, an assisted living and memory care community, celebrated its grand opening Thursday.

“The residents that are here already and the ones that will be moving in in the future are just special to us,” said Susan Vrbas, vice president of operations for Harmony Senior Services, the Virginia-based company which owns and operates The Crossings. “They’re a family to us and we are, everyday, celebrating their lives.”

The 68,000 square foot facility off Clemson Road in the Killian are near Providence Hospital opened in April this year. The community features 66 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments for assisted living. The memory care unit, known as Harmony Square, includes 22 suites for individuals who suffer from memory loss or dementia.

“We’ve been real successful,” said Dee Hook, director of sales and marketing. “We’ve had real good response from the community.”

Hook said The Crossings also offers a therapy room for physical, occupational and speech rehabilitation. Residents are driven to all doctor’s appointments and scheduled grocery shopping trips. Hook said the staff offers a variety of offsite activities including travel to various attractions around the Midlands.

The community also offers “farm-to-table” dining, with multiple meal options made from ingredients from local farmers including Senn Bros. Produce and Manchester Farms.

Hook said the community is about two-thirds full, and she expects it to be completely occupied by October.

More information about the community can be found at the Harmony Senior Services website.
